Workshop on “Environmental Impact Assessment of MEET-BIS Vietnam Project”
An annual edition of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy stated that carbon dioxide emissions in 2010 grew at their fastest rate since 1969, reached a record of 33.16 billion tons. In Vietnam, it is estimated that by the year of 2020, greenhouse gas emissions will increase by 93% compared to those of 1998. As a consequence, global temperatures are on a path to rise by 4-6oC by the end of this century.
Workshop on “Environmental Impact Assessment of MEET-BIS Vietnam Project”
Despite the dramatic growth of carbon emissions, UN dialogues are unlikely to reach an agreement on cutting emissions and reducing harmful effects of climate changes that is binding on signatories before the expiration of the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.
Given this context, energy efficiency to reducing carbon emission becomes a common, critical and urgent target for every country in the world.
Within the framework of the MEET-BIS Project in Vietnam aiming at promoting energy and water efficiency towards sustainable production and consumption, MEET-BIS Vietnam has cooperated with Blue World Carbon – a consulting firm on climate change and energy saving – to undertake an assessment program via Project’s activities in June and July 2013. The program focuses on developing an assessment methodology and measuring the reduction amount of CO2 emission reduction of equipments (lights, solar-power water heating systems, heat pumps, inverters, management softwares, water saving devices, etc.). The program also targets at measuring qualitative impacts such as awareness and behavior changes towards energy saving and environmental protection.
Findings of the assessment will be presented in the workshop on
“Environmental Impact Assessment of MEET-BIS Vietnam Project”
organized at 8.30am, July 19, 2013 in Sunway hotel, Hanoi.
The findings of the assessment will serve as a basis to orient future energy efficiency-related programs of the European Commission provided for Vietnamese enterprises. This workshop also provides an opportunity to recognize and praise positive contributions of stakeholders (investment enterprises, suppliers, industrial associations…) to carbon dioxide emission reduction and environment protection.
